Security Pre-Training Courses

All of our security guards, regardless of whether they’ll be armed or unarmed, or on patrol duty, are required to complete an extensive, eight-hour training course. Afterward, you’ll be able to apply to the State Department for a Security Guard Registration Card. The training course covers every aspect of being a security guard in the state of Texas.

On-the-Job Training

After completing your eight-hour mandated training course, you’ll then need to complete 16 on-the-job hours of training within a maximum of 90 days. This hands-on training will be in-depth and cover all of the duties a security guard will need to perform while on the job. For those working as unarmed security guards, this is as much training as you’ll need before becoming a full-fledged security guard.

Training for Armed Guards

The training process for armed guards is a little more intensive. In addition to completing the training course and on-the-job training mentioned above, you’ll also need to undergo extensive firearms training and complete a firearms safety test. This training may vary depending on the type of armed guard job you’ll be working; training for those working events will differ from those guarding armored vehicles. Armed security guards will also have to periodically undergo professional development training to ensure that they’re up to all of today’s latest industry best practices and state-mandated requirements.
