2020 has been a challenging year for everyone due to the coronavirus outbreak, and that’s certainly true of security companies in Houston. Given that security is a demanding face-to-face job, security companies have had to make a lot of changes to their procedures so that they can continue keeping you safe.
If you’ve been concerned about whether you can find private security companies able to protect you from crime and from disease, here are some of the ways we’re adapting.
There’s no telling when someone might come down with the coronavirus or be exposed to it and have to go into self-isolation. So, we’ve been stepping up our staffing, hiring more people, and keeping more backup guards on-call so that there’s never a gap in security at any of the properties we serve.
To be clear, we’re still putting feet on the ground whenever necessary – but like most companies, we’re also using remote/distance communications whenever it’s feasible. Videoconferencing technologies allow remote supervision while reducing the number of people coming into contact with each other.
One of the more unfortunate side-effects of the COVID-19 outbreak is the rise of incidents caused by people refusing to adhere to safety measures. Every day, it seems, you see public meltdowns on the news where people were told to wear a mask and threw a tantrum instead. So, we’ve been focusing on de-escalation techniques so that our guards can handle these nonviolent-but-annoying situations with limited disruption to everyday business.
A lot of strange new situations have been occurring – like mask-related issues – and that means we’ve needed to step up our communication game. We’ve always listened carefully to our clients and their needs, but now we’re spending more time listening and advising on how to handle novel scenarios.
Plus, of course, we can’t forget the “hands-on” safety measures. We’ve been increasing the use of masks, disinfectants, hand sanitizer, and other important antimicrobial agents to protect you from any accidental contamination.
One widespread issue facing businesses and other public-facing buildings is that some people refuse to go along with masking and distancing policies. Security companies in Houston are prepared to deal with this, politely – but firmly – insisting that all visitors follow your stated health and safety policies. An unruly guest might harass an everyday worker over such policies, but they usually think twice about tangling with a uniformed security guard.
Of course, guards need to follow distancing policies too. Security companies in Houston are updating their training to emphasize this need, encouraging their guards to engage with people at an appropriate distance. Mask use is also becoming widespread among security guards.
